Islamabad Model College for Girls, F/7-2, will soon be upgraded to a women’s university for which formalities will complete in September. This was stated by Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal on Saturday during a meeting at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to review projects under Vision 2025.
The meeting discussed plans for establishment of a federal women university, national skills university and establishment of Seerat chairs in universities across Pakistan.
The minister said the government’s medium-term development goals include establishment of a university or a sub-campus in every district by 2017-18.
Speaking about the planned national skills university, Iqbal said skill-based training is a critical component of the national development. The minister said the university will provide better employability to the youth. The university will also certify and accredit the skills programmes across the country that will enable youth to gain employment overseas.
The minister said the project “Technology Development Fund” is aimed at ensuring that returning PhDs should not only teach, but also actively get involved in research in the relevant fields.
He also asked HEC to identify disciplines in which PhD scholarships will be offered in the next five years.
