Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday granted a stay order on the placement of advertisements for the post of chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) and issued notices to the information secretary and others.
Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi accepted the petition filed by former Pemra chairman Rashid Ahmad who challenged the placement
of advertisements regarding the chairman Pemra in
major newspapers by Information Secretary Muhammad Azam.
Waseem Sajjad, counsel representing the petitioner, said the case was still pending before the
court when the ministry advertised the post. “The advertisement for the position of chairman Pemra was placed in violation of court orders,” said Sajjad.
He said the ministry could not advertise the post unless the court had decided the case, praying action to be taken against the respondents.
The court after hearing the argument issued notices to the respondents and adjourned the case till an indefinite period.
